| RICCIA Riccia is the most important centre of the We suggest the visitor to go through the medieval historical centre and to reach, along narrow streets and steep stone-made stairs, the so called “Piano della Corte” area, with the imposing tower and the precious church of “Saint Mary of the Graces”. Along the path one cannot miss the lions of the XIII century of the portal of Assunta’s Church, the façade of Annunziata’s Church, with one of the most beautiful portal of Inside the “Magazeno” -an ancient building of “Piano della Corte”- the Museum of the Arts and Folk Traditions collects ancient work tools and an exciting series of objects of the past.
To see The tower of Riccia The origin of the castle is uncertain, but it was –of course- restructured in 1285, when Riccia became a feud belonging to Bartolomeo de Capua. Then, in 1515, Bartolomeo III de Capua realized a series of defensive turrets and the moat. In 1799, during the days of the The great tower, about The entry door is beautiful: it is surmounted by a Latin epigraph of 1515 ending with the sentence: “COME NEARER, IF YOU ARE A GUEST. RUN AWAY, IF YOU ARE AN ENEMY, IN ORDER NOT TO BE HIT BY JUPITER’S ANGER”.
Church of Saint Mary of the Graces The church is one of the most important examples of the Renaissance architecture in Originally a part of the building coincided with the crypt of St. John Baptist’s Church, that is no more there today. Because of the closeness to The façade is very simple and elegant and has two pilaster strips in Doric style on sides, a door with the coat of arms of de Capua family and an inscription dedicated to the Virgin Mary: “IN TE DOMINA SPES MEA" (In you, Our Lady, my hope). A niche on the door and a round- funnel-shaped window come before the elegant tympanum. Inside the building, an arch divides the room in two parts. The back one has a groin ribbed vault with polygonal shape, rested on four different cubical and foliage-shaped capitals. On the side walls there are family de Capua’s graves, in particular that of Costanza di Chiaromonte, repudiated by the king Ladislao d’Angiò in 1392 and later married to Andrea de Capua. In the middle, in the floor, there is the burial place of Bartolomeo III. The stoup put in the wall is singular. It is made of a shell-shaped basin with three fish inside (symbol of the Trinity) and a demonic snake.
Appointments Grapes Festival During the folk festivity day, Riccia’s streets are passed through by cars, representing scenes of rural life, decorated with shoots, bunches and grapes. Wine and confectionery products are distributed to spectators, while music and dance go on.
